Time Out

As we taxi down the runway from the inaccurately named Albany International Airport (there are no international flights) it has officially become reality that my 2-week European Vacation, heretofore referred to as Intermission, will be extended to 4. My bike sits in the Saville Road Bike Shop in Albany waiting for parts and pieces so they can build a new wheel. They should have it done by next week, but 1) there’s absolutely nothing for me to do in Albany, NY for a week, especially without transportation, and 2) by the time the bike is fixed next week, I’d be stopping in another week anyway.

The trip will resume right after July 4th. The 5th, to be exact - which for those scoring at home is right after the 4th. It will involve some more car rentals and rail trails to get back on track, but within a week, I should be back on my previous schedule, having checked off West By God Virginia, Ohio, Michigan and Indiana before meeting up with Dan McCormack in Illinois.

In the meantime, the upside is a little time at the house with Kelly and Gaucho, a little golf that I wasn’t expecting until September, and some local rides on my old bike with anyone interested just to try and maintain a hard-earned level of fitness. If you’re in the Couv or Portland, between now and the 19th, give me a shout. As I’ve learned, spending time with family and friends is second to none.

Little did I know what was waiting for me just up the road …
