Commencing countdown, engines on! (I also considered Carry on My Wayward Son for this post due to the multiple different layers of appropriateness for this endeavor).
We are 8 days out from the official start of the 2025 Blow Me Tour. I have sold the naming rights for this ride to Dan McCormack. There were other options that were perhaps a bit less cheeky and more nuanced, however this just pretty much sums it all up. I will be heading out on Tuesday AM for a long 2-day drive to the starting line. The plan is for a couple rounds of golf on Thursday and Friday and maybe even squeeze a Royals game in on Friday night - never having been to a ballgame in KC. The ride will begin on Saturday morning and end on Friday evening.
Thanks to those that have participated in our illegal gambling pool - I get a thrill out of pushing the envelope like this! As of now, we have 13 entries. Today will be the final day to enter, as the weather app accuracy will continue to improve the closer we get to the start, providing an unfair advantage to late entrants. I have heard of a variety of different strategies from the dartboard, to insider knowledge from some Midwesterners, to painstaking analysis of historical wind patterns. I have run some “simulations” with the endpoint being in no fewer than 7 different states so far.
At the risk of tilting the field to any latecomers, a couple of clarifications should be made. If there is little to no wind on a given day, the estimate of 80 miles per day is off the table. If there is rain, the estimate of 80 miles per day is off the table. If the last day has me passing near a city of decent size (defined as having a place where I can rent a car), I will be stopping there, or close by.
I’m plan to have my bookie give me the various guesses - but withholding the names of the participants. I only do this because it might make for more entertaining posts. If you haven’t already made your wager, today’s the day!
