Take 2

There once was a man from Nantucket …

No, I won’t go there, although for a time I had a T-Shirt that said “I am the man from Nantucket”. That shirt is on some unknowing person in Zambia these days.

How about this:

I’ll ride my bike for a week

No particular place do I seek

With a helping breeze

I’ll go where I please

This trip will be quite unique.

I’ll start some time in May

75 to 80 miles each day

The destination each day is unknown

It will be wherever my bike is blown

I will not be struggling on the way.

KC will be the starting place

No breeze will be in my face

Each morn I’ll look at my app

Then I’ll check out my map

To that day’s destination I’ll race

There’s been a suggestion to make it a game

The final destination people should name

Put in a twenty

The winner gets plenty

Who knows? The start and the end could be same

In case this whole thing has made no sense to anyone, I’m going to do another short ride. The ride will start in KC some time in mid-May. It’s been well-documented in these posts how much I detest riding in the headwinds. A fact made all the more clear last Spring on our Route 66 ride through Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle. On this trip, I’m only going to ride downwind. I want to see where it takes me after 1 week. I won’t know where I’m going until I get up each day and see which direction the wind blows. My goal is 75-80 miles a day, but who knows. If the prairie winds are strong, I could go

farther. I'll aim for a town with a hotel or motel each night. I have no intention of camping. I figure, the range of possible outcomes for the final destination is vast. My hope is it's a big city with an airport, but I won't force it.

A buddy here suggested I take bets. Whoever, gets closest to my final destination, wins the whole pot. Of course, I won't bet. Thoughts?

I have seen a T-shirt written like that here, I just didn't know it was yours😅.

I'm in for the betting! (and I want to know Dan's story about Apple Maps)

Sounds miserable. Adventuresome and fun! But also miserable. "No breeze will be in my face" sounds better : )

Um, just a suggestion… no matter which way the wind is blowing, avoid using Apple Maps to select your route. (Or get new tires. Your call.)

Fair point. I will be sticking to paved roads at all times, unless I can find a known alternate route (Katy Trail?)
